ACAMS Welcomes Jen Calvery, HSBC Financial Crime Risk and Compliance Head, to its Board of Directors

ACAMS, the global leader in certification and intelligence for anti-financial crime (AFC) professionals, today announced the appointment of Jen Calvery, Group Head of Financial Crime Risk and Compliance at HSBC and former Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), to its Board of Directors.

Calvery’s appointment comes as AI changes both the nature of financial crime and the work of the professionals charged with combating it. Having served in law enforcement, as a regulator, and now as a senior AFC leader within a global financial institution, Calvery brings a rare cross-sector perspective to ACAMS as the organization innovates to help institutions strengthen their AFC programs for a more technology-driven future.

“Few leaders have shaped the fight against financial crime from as many vantage points as Jen,” said Neil Sternthal, CEO of ACAMS. “Her depth of experience as a prosecutor, regulator, and practitioner has distinguished her as a leader amongst leaders across the global AFC community. Jen brings invaluable experience to ACAMS’ Board to help us navigate this moment of unprecedented technology and geopolitical change. Her contributions will help our community of AFC professionals stay ahead.”

Calvery leads HSBC’s Financial Crime Risk and Compliance group, overseeing the bank’s strategic efforts to enable professionals with new technology and skills to fight against fraud and other financial crimes. She is also a Non-Executive Director for HSBC Private Bank focusing on governance, risk management, and regulatory and compliance outcomes.

Prior to joining HSBC, Calvery served as the Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). She served 15 years in the U.S. Department of Justice, including as the Chief of the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section, and as a prosecutor focused on fraud and organized crime.

“ACAMS uniquely unites practitioners, policymakers, law enforcement and technology leaders,” said Calvery. “I am delighted to join the Board at this pivotal moment and support ACAMS and its leadership as they equip the next generation of financial crime practitioners to harness innovation responsibly and stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated threats.”

Calvery’s appointment strengthens practitioner representation on the ACAMS Board of Directors as the organization looks to the industry’s leading voices to help shape its strategy and prepare the AFC community for what comes next. She joins Bill Fox, another former FinCEN director and former Bank of America Global Head of Financial Crimes, bringing industry perspective to how ACAMS can equip professionals with the knowledge and skills they will need as financial crime risks, technology and the profession itself continue to evolve.

“Jen brings a perspective that is exceptionally rare in our industry,” said Harper Mates, Chair of the ACAMS Board of Directors. “She understands the priorities of regulators, the realities facing financial institutions, and the opportunities that emerging technologies create for the profession. That breadth of experience will make her a valuable voice on our Board as ACAMS helps shape the future of AFC.”

Calvery’s appointment follows the recent addition of four senior leaders from Citi, TD Bank, Generali and Truist to ACAMS’ Advisory Board, further expanding the industry perspectives informing the organization’s strategy.
