Hydro Innovations Highlights Gorman-Rupp Pumps Project for Greater Western Water in Melbourne’s North West
Rydalmere, NSW — May 2026 — Hydro Innovations, Australia’s trusted supplier of advanced pumping and aeration solutions and exclusive distributor of Gorman-Rupp pumps, has highlighted the successful delivery of a major water infrastructure project for Greater Western Water on the north western fringe of Melbourne.
The WIN project required a reliable pumping system to deliver water to irrigation pivots and storage tanks across a demanding municipal application. Hydro Innovations supplied Gorman-Rupp VS6A60S-B pumps from the Ultra V Series, each driven by 110kW motors, to meet varied operating requirements across the site.
The selected 2-stage self priming pump solution was designed to support duty points ranging from 30 L/s to 150 L/s at 68 metres head for irrigation pivots, along with 58 L/s at 43 metres head through to 115 L/s at 46 metres head for future flows. This gave Greater Western Water a flexible pumping system capable of supporting both current and future water delivery needs.
A key benefit of the installation is its above-ground “high and dry” configuration. Unlike submersible alternatives, the Gorman Rupp pumps can be accessed safely from ground level, reducing the need for confined space entry, lifting equipment, and large maintenance crews. This makes routine inspection, monitoring, and servicing more practical for operations and maintenance teams.
The system also integrates with SCADA, allowing the pumps to deliver required flows remotely and reliably without an operator needing to be present at all times. Floating suction lines were incorporated to manage changing water levels throughout the year, while the pumps operate with notably low noise levels.
“Greater Western Water were impressed by the simplicity of the solution and the great quality of the Gorman Rupp pump,” said a Hydro Innovations spokesperson.
Although Gorman-Rupp’s Ultra V Series is widely used as a wastewater pump platform, the Greater Western Water project demonstrates the versatility of the technology across broader municipal water infrastructure. The pumps were selected for their ability to deliver high pressures, handle variable flows, and remain easy to access for maintenance.
Hydro Innovations delivered the pump sets coupled to motors on galvanised steel bases, ready to be bolted to the pipework and connected to power. The result is a practical, serviceable and robust water delivery solution designed to support long-term reliability in a critical municipal environment.
The project reinforces Hydro Innovations’ role in helping Australian water authorities and infrastructure operators select safer, smarter and more maintainable pumping systems for demanding applications.
