RASA World Turns Pier Play San Francisco Into a Platform for Environmental Action

RASA World has united with WHEN Justice for its September 19 debut at Pier 70. Together with Bye Bye Plastic Foundation and r.World, these partnerships are proving live entertainment can be a force for good.

Behind the sold-out festivals Thrill City with Six Flags and Pier Play Santa Monica, RASA World is a venture-backed live-experience company that uses technology and data to build branded entertainment IPs that bring iconic spaces to life. As RASA scales, the company is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and giving back to the communities it operates in.

“RASA is working with the City of San Francisco and multiple organizations, including WHEN Justice and Bye Bye Plastic, to change the industry,” said Ahmad Muhaisen, CEO and Co-founder of RASA World. “We’re building a new ecosystem for live entertainment. One that brings together a global community of leaders, creatives, and changemakers to celebrate music, foster connection, and create real impact.”

Entertainment meets impact with WHEN Justice

Pier Play San Francisco kicks off a long-term, multi-event impact partnership between RASA and WHEN Justice, a nonprofit that has raised nearly $1.4 million to fund public-interest litigation. WHEN has helped secure landmark settlements requiring AT&T to remove 107,000 pounds of toxic lead cables from Lake Tahoe, and forcing a $70 billion waste management company to re-engineer its landfill system to prevent pollution from entering the San Francisco Bay.

A portion of proceeds from every Pier Play SF pass will be given to WHEN Justice. At Pier 70, WHEN will also host a premium Sky Deck experience, bringing its mission directly onsite and inviting more people to join the cause. Proceeds from the Sky Deck will benefit the organization.

“Gathering on the Bay feels especially meaningful after WHEN’s recent win helping to stop a local landfill from leaching toxins into these very waters,” remarked WHEN’s Chief Executive and Legal Officer, Jacqueline Biner. “We’re so excited to partner with RASA to bring our work to new audiences and transform what we know will be a good time into something with an even greater purpose.”

RASA and WHEN Justice have already raised upwards of half a million dollars together. Now the partnership is scaling to six more events, from exclusive social gatherings to the next three Pier Play festivals, including the first-ever two-day music festival at the Santa Monica Pier on October 3rd and 4th.

Raising the bar with BLOND:ISH’s Bye Bye Plastic

RASA has also partnered with The Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, founded by Pier Play SF headliner BLOND:ISH, to eliminate single-use plastics from the music and events industry.

Co-founded by Vivie-Ann Bakos (BLOND:ISH) and Camille Guitteau in 2019, Bye Bye Plastic partners with artists, venues, and festivals worldwide to remove plastic from live entertainment. Bye Bye Plastic is advancing its U.S. presence with the launch of the Zero Plastic Club: NYC Chapter, their plastic-free transition program, during New York Climate Week.

“These are the types of partnerships we live for. Three different powerhouse communities cross-pollinating on one shared mission of making this industry better than we found it. It’s simple math for creating movements. And we’re here for it,” said Vivie-Ann Bakos, Artist, Producer, and Co-Founder of Bye Bye Plastic.

Already adopted by 1,500+ artists worldwide, their Eco-Rider has helped keep 325,000+ plastic bottles and 425,000+ cups out of circulation. Partnerships like RASA World help accelerate their mission.

Pier 70’s First-Ever Music Festival

Pier Play SF takes place Saturday, September 19, marking the first music festival in Pier 70’s 140-year history.

Pier Play SF will mark RASA’s first event eliminating single-use plastic cups where operationally feasible. Working with r.World, reusable r.Cups are collected after use, professionally sanitized through the industry leader’s proprietary wash hub technology, and recirculated for future events. This partnership supports RASA’s broader goal of moving its events toward a zero-waste operating model.

“We’re excited to partner with RASA World and show Pier Play San Francisco festival-goers what reuse in action looks like,” said Michael Martin, Founder and CEO of r.World. “RASA has brought together multiple forces to drive environmental progress through live entertainment, and I thank them for the opportunity to help bring their vision to life.”

As RASA scales, these environmental partnerships reflect the company’s holistic approach to programming. RASA is working directly with the SF Environment Department as part of the city’s Reusable Cup Pilot, replacing single-use cups with reusable alternatives. For RASA, its events are designed to meet the highest environmental standards while leaving a positive impact on the community.

“Our pilots are showing that reuse can be practical, economical, and easy for people,” said Tyrone Jue, Director of the San Francisco Environment Department. “I applaud RASA and the Pier Play Festival for choosing reusables for their first San Francisco event. This is how we build the habits and systems we need to move away from single-use waste.”
