worldie Holds Youth Footwear Field Test at Washington Park in Denver

Denver-based startup gathered early product feedback during soccer, volleyball, kickball and free play and plans additional park-based sessions.

A 6-year-old shouldn’t have to specialize because their gear does. We want kids trying things. Soccer today. Basketball tomorrow. Racing to the playground after that. The shoes should make that easier”

— Brandan Ward

DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, August 31, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — worldie, a Denver-based kids athletic footwear startup, held a field test Saturday at Washington Park with local families who received shoes and used them during soccer, volleyball, kickball and free play.

Many of the participating families first connected with worldie at the Denver Days Back to School Fest earlier in August. At that event, families were invited to sign up for a free pair of shoes and participate in ongoing product testing.

At the start of Saturday’s event, worldie co-founder Brandan Ward told families, “The idea behind today is really just to have fun and give us as much feedback as possible.”

During the session, children moved between organized games, the playground and other parts of the park. Several children also splashed in the stream while wearing the shoes, providing an unplanned test of the product’s waterproof construction. Parents participated in games, talked with one another and shared observations with the worldie team.

The field test was designed to collect early feedback on fit, comfort, ease of use and how the shoes perform across different activities and surfaces. worldie plans to follow up with participating families as the shoes are worn over the coming weeks and months to gather additional information on wear, durability and performance.

worldie’s first product is a multi-sport performance shoe developed for children. According to the company, the product development process begins with the needs of young athletes rather than adapting an adult performance shoe into smaller sizes. Saturday’s event was intended to observe how children use the same shoe as they move between sports and everyday play.

The test also takes place against a backdrop of rising youth sports costs. The Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative reported that the average sports family spent $1,016 on a child’s primary sport in 2024, a 46 percent increase from 2019. For children who participate in several activities, footwear can be one of multiple sport-specific equipment expenses.

worldie is continuing to evaluate whether a multi-sport footwear approach can simplify that part of the experience for families while still meeting the performance needs of young athletes. Feedback from the Washington Park participants will be used in future product development and testing.

The company also plans to host a series of one- to two-hour pop-up play sessions in Denver called worldie field days. Planned locations include Cheesman Park, City Park, Congress Park and Washington Park. The sessions are intended to give local families informal opportunities to play while allowing worldie to continue gathering feedback from children and parents.
